William D. (Bill) Irvin

William D. (Bill) Irvin is Lead Appraiser and Director of Research. His responsibilities include the appraisal of personal property for fiduciaries and private clients throughout Virginia and the research and identification of the regional characteristics of period furniture and decorative arts. Bill continues to increase his knowledge base by attending noteworthy seminars, including the 2008 Furniture Forum held at the Winterthur Museum. Bill’s expertise in the visual and microscopic analysis of wood is a valuable asset to his roles as appraiser and researcher.

Bill has been the owner of Harrington and Winchester, an appointment only antique furniture and decorative arts establishment, for over twenty years. He and his wife live in a Federal manor house built in 1812.

Bill received his Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Tennessee. His Master of Science and Doctoral degrees are from Virginia Tech.

Terry Hunter

Associate Appraiser

Terry Hunter has been active in appraising coins, currency, stamps, art glass, and antiques as an associate of Motley’s since 2000. He works in advisory capacity to Motley’s in the antique and estate division in preparation for their sales.

Prior to his work at Motley’s Terry held concurrent jobs with both Amherst Auction Galleries in Amherst, Massachusetts and Ken Miller and Son, Auctioneers in Northfield, Massachusetts. He provided appraisal services for American Ephemera (including stamps, paper currency, poster, and post card art), textiles, especially quilts and jacquard weaving, American art pottery, and American art glass.

Terry spent two summers at the Smithsonian in Washington working with their Art Pottery Collection. He has taught at the secondary and college level in Missouri and Massachusettes.

Terry received degrees in History and Geography from The College of the Ozarks where he was first in class, Cum Laude, and in the History of France from The University of Massachusetts. Terry completed his PhD with the University of Massachusetts in History of Art, American Ephemera and Textiles.

Nina Woolford
Christina (Nina) M. Woolford

Nina Woolford is the founder of Richmond 's independent gem and jewelry appraisal service C.M. Woolford and Associates, LLC. She is a Certified Appraiser of Personal Property (CAPP) with the International Society of Appraisers (ISA). Nina has been an independent gem and jewelry appraiser in the Richmond , Virginia area since 1989. Among her firm's corporate clients are Motley's Auction Company and Schwarzschild Jewelers.

Nina earned her graduate gemologist diploma, in residence, from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in 1984. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1976. Nina is a member of the GIA Alumni Association, the International Society of Appraisers, the Accredited Gemologist Association and the Society of Jewelry Historians. William Blair of William Blair Books in Virginia has been actively involved in the book trade for over 15 years in the areas of book buying, book selling and book appraisals.

Bill regularly conducts appraisals for The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, The Bank of America, McGuire Woods LLP, Motley’s Auctions Inc. of Richmond, Virginia, The Virginia Historical Society and The Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C.

Kim Thomas joined Motley’s Auction & Realty Group in 2003. She works with the marketing of the appraisal division, assists with on site antique and estate appraisals, conducts appraisal research, coordinates estate distributions, compiles division cost analysis, assists with auction previews and auctions, and assists with general public relations.

Kim holds a BS in education from James Madison University and Learning Disabilities certification from the University of Richmond. She is a member of the Council of Historic Richmond Foundation and was the 2005 Chairman of Historic Garden Week in Virginia for the Historic Richmond Foundation Tour.

Assistant Office Manager

Nancy Berry serves as Assistant Office Manager. In that capacity, she maintains auction accounts and settlements along with other varied duties.

Nancy joined Motley's in 1981 and was our dedicated Office Manager for many years. Prior to joining Motley’s, Nancy held a managerial position with an interstate moving firm. She began her career at the Virginia State Department of Education.

Blinda Labrador is an Appraisal Associate for Motley’s Appraisal Division.Blinda joined the Motley’s team in 2004. Since that time she has worked closely with appraisers in document preparation, as well as with the Antique & Estate Division doing data entry for catalogs and clerking the sale. As the Appraisal Associate she also schedules appraisals, does data entry on site with the appraiser and sees that the clients are kept up to date on the progress of their appraisal. Blinda’s knowledge of antiques and collectibles continues to increase daily from furniture to firearms and everything in between.
